The Falcons look to build on their opening weekend victory over the Saints as they head into Cincinnati to take on the ferocious Bengals defense.
The Falcons responded to last year’s debacle with a statement victory in their home opener last weekend as they outlasted their division rivals from New Orleans in what was one of the most exciting games of the week. Atlanta is loaded offensively and Matt Ryan absolutely went off on a pretty good Saints defense setting a single game record for passing yards and more importantly got his team a much needed victory and confidence boost. Atlanta was expected to make the playoffs last year but an early season injury to Julio Jones was the first block to fall in what was ultimately a very disappointing season that left the Falcons with a 4-12 mark and a top five draft pick. Atlanta is a much different team on the road though as is Ryan who will be hard pressed to replicate his success through the air against a very stingy Bengals defense that is coming off a season opening victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
The Bengals continue to fly under the radar despite being a division winner last season and ousting the defending Super Bowl champions in the process but this could finally be the year where Cincinnati football becomes a power in the AFC. The Bengals defense is well documented but their offense is special as well led of course by AJ Green who continues to be among the game’s best offensive weapons and while Andy Dalton continues to grow as a quarterback he is certainly making his case to b considered among the game’s elite. Gio Bernard and Jeremy Hill give the Stripes some solid options on the ground as well and against a team like Atlanta who is very pass happy and can score points at will you can expect a heavy dose of the Bengals runners in this one. While it is still tough to lock into the Bengals as a favourite I think this is a great spot for them at home and I think they will take advantage of Matty Ice playing out of his comfort zone.
