The Detroit Lions and New York Jets play Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The Detroit Lions mostly get credit for their explosive offense, but it’s been their defense that has gotten the job done the first few weeks. The Lions are first in the league, allowing just 244.3 yards per game and have forced three turnovers and eight sacks. However, the Lions defense will be without Stephen Tulloch for the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL. DeAndre Levy leads the Lions with 27 tackles and five tackles for loss, while George Johnson has 2.5 sacks. Offensively, Matthew Stafford still makes poor decisions with the ball, as he has three interceptions and three touchdowns, but the Lions have 11 passing plays that have produced 20 or more yards. Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate have combined for more than 500 receiving yards and two touchdowns. However, the Detroit Lions running game needs to improve as it’s averaging just three yards per carry. Reggie Bush needs to be involved in this offense a lot more.
USA TODAY Sports
The New York Jets have lost two straight but have been competitive against some of the NFC’s best. That Rex Ryan defense is second in the league with an average of 268.3 yards per game allowed, and it has also forced two turnovers and 10 sacks. Keep in mind the Jets defense is playing this well even without cornerback Dee Milliner, who is questionable for this matchup. Demario Davis leads the Jets with 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks, while Dawan Landry is second on the team with 20 tackles. Offensively, Geno Smith is still making poor decisions, as he has four interceptions and three touchdown passes. However, Geno has been able to rely on a solid Jets backfield that’s averaging a solid 4.9 yards per carry. Eric Decker is again questionable for this game with a hamstring injury.
The Lions are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Jets are 3-1-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 4.
This game will feature the top two defenses in the NFL according to the stats. The under may be worth a look here. However, in a pick em game I have to go with the team that has the better quarterback. The Lions are much more consistent on the offensive side of the ball, while the Jets struggle in the red zone and call questionable plays throughout the game. Give me the more balanced team on the road.
