The San Diego Chargers hope to keep their solid play alive here, as the Chargers get set to host the struggling Jaguars.
The San Diego Chargers are off to a very impressive start to the season. San Diego earned an impressive win against the Seahawks at home in the second week of the season, and their only loss has been against a very good Arizona team on the road in week one. Phillip Rivers has been excellent in this Mike McCoy offense. Rivers is no longer the close your eyes and chuck it downfield passer he once was, he has embraced the short passing game, and using that, this Charger team will nickel and dime you to death, eating up as much clock as possible. Defensively the Chargers have been playing very well, especially in the secondary with Weddle and Verrett. There has been some talk that the Chargers are one of the “smoke and mirrors” teams, but as of right now anyway, I just don’t see it as I feel McCoy is one of the better coaches in the league and this Chargers team should continue to improve as the season progresses.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are, well, the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags showed some promise to begin the season, jumping out to an early lead against the Eagles in their first half of their week one game, but since that half, the Jags have been horrible. The Jags are making a switch at the quarterback spot this week, in a move that we all saw coming, it was just a matter of when. Blake Bortles will be under center again for the Jags, and while Bortles was up and down last week, at least he brings some hope, and a spark to this offense which has done nothing with Henne under center (imagine that). The Jags ground game with Gerhart has been horrible as well, but perhaps with Bortles geting some attention from the opposition, Gerhart can start to find his stride. This defense is supposed to be improved, but apparently thats next season. The Jags offense hasn’t helped this unit out much, but even if the offense improves, this unit just doens’t have the horses right now to run the scheme they want to run.
We have just about an even split in tickets on this one, with the line dropping somewhat from SD -13.5 to SD -12.5 at most books.
I have to take the Jags in this spot. Like my Raiders write-up, I know I just ripped on Jacksonville, and while that is deserving, this does look like a decent spot for the Jags. San Diego has had a rough start to the season, scheduling wise, and after two physical games against NFC West opponents to open the season, the Chargers had to travel across conunty last week to face the Bills. Now, the Chargers are back home against the worst team in the NFL, a very possible let down spot. I love getting double digit points in the NFL, and with a possible let down from the Chargers, and the Jags having a new spark under center, Jacksonville probably won’t get the win, but I’ll take the double digit points here.
