The Cincinnati Bengals hope to remain undefeated after Sunday when the Bengals head to New England to face the Pats.
The New England Patriots are sitting at 2-2, and if you can take anything away from Bill Belichick’s press conference, the Pats are now focusing on Cincinnati. The Pats are coming off a blowout loss to the Chiefs in a game that saw Brady get benched for Jimmy Garoppolo. The only thing I’m taking away from this is the amusment I got when I watched some reporter ask Belichick whether or not there was a quarterback situation in New England. The look on Belichick’s face was priceless. Look, the Pats are not a great team this season, that much goes without saying, but I don’t feel that the Pats are as bad as we saw this past weekend in K.C. The Patriots have shown the ability to adapt offensively in the past, and right now the Pats are doing the same thing again. In the past, Brady was able to make up for lackluster talent in the skill positions around him, but now, he needs more help and I just don’t know if the Patriots have the personnel around him to get it done. New England realizes this and is going through a transition phase right now that is taking some time to implement. The Patriots will be likely be in the hunt at the end of the season, but it will take some time.

The Bengals are 3-0 on the season, and arguably have the best roster, at least offensively in the league. The Bengals offense is playing outstanding right now, thanks in large part to their offensive line. The Bengals front is playing really well, and giving Dalton time and Gio Bernard holes. As good and talented as the Bengals offense is, when I think of Cincy, the first thing I think of is their defense. The Bengals are among the best in the league against the pass, but the Bengals have been ran on this season, with opponents gaining better than five yards per carry against Cincy. The Pats don’t have a big downfield threat, and are running a slower paced, ball control offense this season, and that involves plenty of work on the ground. If the Bengals want to get the win on the road against New England here, Cincy will need to play well against the New England ground game.
The Bengals are also perfect against the spread this season, with a record of 3-0, and 1-0 ATS on the road. The Patriots are just 1-3 against the spread and at home the Pats are 0-1 against the number this season.
Every stat in the world says take the Bengals here, but I just can’t do it. The Patriots are famously good after a loss, and after getting humiliated like that on national television, you can bet the Pats will be looking to bounce back in a big way with a win against an undefeated team. New England would have been the favorite coming into this one had they not been blown out against the Chiefs in front of everyone’s eyes. Cincy is really good this season, but this is just a bad spot for them as I like the Pats to get the cover and win here on Sunday night.
