The Chargers look to keep their impressive start to the season intact when they host the New York Jets in San Diego on Sunday.
The New York Football Jets look to avoid losing their fourth straight contest on Sunday as they head into San Diego to take on one of the favourites in the AFC who has raced out to a 3-1 start. The Jets opened the season with a win against the lowly Oakland Raiders but have dropped three in a row including last weekend’s matchup with the Detroit Lions which led to much speculation and fan declaration of wanting Michael Vick behind centre. The Jets have been struggling thorugh the air and most of that falls on the shoulders of Geno Smith who was very ineffective against the Lions and if he can’t get things going against the Chargers than the cries for Vick will only get louder despite the lauding of Rex Ryan remaining confident in Smith. Chris Ivory has emerged as the every down back for the Jets and has looked quite good in doing so and if Eric Decker can get healthy than the two of them should ease the pressure on Smith and allow him more time to look down field and complete his passes.

The Chargers have looked great through four weeks and already have a statement victory on their resume as they upended the Seahawks in week two but they’ll have to have a strong week of practice to get prepared for the Jets as their game last week was against the Jags. Philip Rivers has played as well as anyone in the league this season and if he can continue his strong play he could find himself in the running for MVP but that isn’t the focus of Rivers nor head coach Mike McCoy as they are focused on returning to the playoffs and making a deep run. The Chargers are still without Ryan Mathews which to me is a bit of a concern as I don’t trust Donald Brown as an every down back and with the Jets front seven being among the best in football I think we could see the Chargers’ run game do very little allowing New York to get pressure on Rivers. I think we are going to see a very close contest that could come down to a field goal and while Geno Smith is never someone to lay your money on I think he is playing for his job here and I expect him and the Jets to respond. I am strongly debating taking the Jets on the money line but will gladly take the points here.
