NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Weekly Schedule and More
October 7, 2014
Week 5 in the NFL is all wrapped up now, and it seems like these days are just flying by. Now we all will turn our attentions toward Week 6, which begins in just a couple of days. In the meantime, there’s plenty to go over, so let’s check out our daily NFL wrap-up and see who’s in the news.
MNF Wrap-Up: Last night belonged to Russell Wilson. Despite the Seahawks’ myriad of penalties (some questionable) that bogged down drives and took away three scoring plays from Percy Harvin, the Seattle QB was able to keep his team on top, rushing for a career-high 122 yards and a TD while passing for two more scores. The end result was a closer-than-it-should-have-been 27-17 victory for Seattle.
The Seahawks are now 21-8 on Monday night--best in the NFL. They’ve won their last nine in a row on that day. In prime time, the team is 11-1 under coach Pete Carroll.

We won’t know for sure until tomorrow, but the Jaguars might be getting a couple of players back at practice. Both Cecil Shorts and Marqise Lee could be joining the team for tomorrow’s session, depending on how their respective injuries are feeling.
Shorts has only played in two games this year due to a hamstring injury, and Lee has missed the last three weeks with the same issue. We’ll see how things go this week.
On a related note, running backs Toby Gerhart, Jordan Todman and Storm Johnson are all expected to join practice as well.
The Panthers’ Josh Norman suffered a concussion in the team’s Week 5 victory over the Bears. He’ll have to go through the league’s protocols before heading back to the field.
When Saints coach Sean Payton addressed the media yesterday, he didn’t comment on tight end Jimmy Graham’s status, leaving many fans (and fantasy owners) in the dark.
Graham exited Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay thanks to a shoulder injury, and there’s scant information on his current condition.
According to a few reports out there, Graham has a sprained shoulder and could return after the bye. The Saints don’t come back to action until Week 7.
In a similar situation, Lions coach Jim Caldwell didn’t give any updates on Calvin Johnson or Reggie Bush during his media session yesterday.
Johnson aggravated his ankle injury during the Bills loss, and Bush caught the bug with an ankle injury of his own that caused him to leave the game.
Disturbingly enough, there’s a report out there that says Johnson will miss 1-2 weeks with his injury, but as yet that news is unsubstantiated.
Week 6 NFL Schedule: It’s time to start looking forward to Week 6 in the NFL. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks you can catch the games on.
