The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns play Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Steelers won the first meeting this season, 30-27.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been shaky lately with a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a close contest against the lonely Jacksonville Jaguars. One player you can’t blame for the struggles is Ben Roethlisberger, who hasn’t thrown a pick in three straight games and is completing 68.9 percent of his passes. Antonio Brown has caught 34 passes for 511 yards and five touchdowns and is part of a Pittsburgh receiving core that’s produced 18 passing plays of 20 or more yards. A combination of Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount has the Steelers rushing for five yards per carry and has produced all three of Pitt’s three rushing touchdowns. The Steelers have one of their more explosive offenses they’ve had in a while and have won seven of their last nine games when scoring 21 or more points. Defensively, the Pittsburgh Steelers are allowing 21.6 points, 330.8 yards, and they’ve forced five turnovers and eight sacks.
The Cleveland Browns are fresh off one of the biggest comebacks in NFL history, erasing a 25-point deficit to the Tennessee Titans. The Browns are a physical football team that relies on a power running game made up of Terrance West, Ben Tate and Isaiah Crowell, a trio that has Cleveland averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Brian Hoyer is completing 62.1 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and one interception, and the Browns are 3-0 SU when he throws two or more touchdown passes. Travis Benjamin is coming off of a two-touchdown performance and Andrew Hawkins has caught 10 of his 24 receptions in his last two games. The Browns have scored 21 or more points in all four games this season. Defensively, the Cleveland Browns are allowing 26.3 points, 421.8 yards, and they’ve forced four turnovers and eight sacks. Karlos Dansby leads the Browns with 31 tackles and Jabaal Sheard has two sacks.
The Steelers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Browns are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 2-0-2 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The underdog is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings.
The Cleveland Browns have not beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers since November of 2012. However, the Browns hung with the Steelers earlier this season in Pitt, and it's not like Pittsburgh has been playing great football this season. The Browns are starting to turn the page and are slowly becoming a team you don't want to face because they're sneaky good. Give me Cleveland to cover the small chalk at home.
