The Line: St. Louis Rams +3 -- Over/Under: 43.5 See the Latest Odds

The San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams play a Monday night game at Edward Jones Dome.

The San Francisco 49ers have won back-to-back games and are slowly starting to look like the Super Bowl contender we once thought they were. The 49ers continue to turn to their defense that is allowing 21.2 points, 282.8 yards, and they’ve forced 10 turnovers and five sacks. The 49ers have won eight straight regular season games when allowing 21 or less points. Patrick Willis leads the 49ers with 31 tackles and Perrish Cox has three interceptions. Colin Kaepernick is completing 64.7 percent of his passes for seven touchdowns and four interceptions, but he’s completed less than 60 percent in his last two games. Frank Gore leads the 49ers with 365 rushing yards, and they’re averaging 4.5 yards as a team. However, the 49ers, a team that’s known as a power running offense, hasn’t had a rushing touchdown in two straight games. The San Francisco 49ers still have work to do before they can think about competing for a Super Bowl this season.

The St. Louis Rams have lost to the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles by a combined nine points but are still sitting with a 1-3 record. Austin Hill has been better than expected, completing 67.8 percent of his passes and throwing six touchdowns and two interceptions in his last two games. Hill will have to be flawless in this game, especially with leading rusher Zac Stacy questionable with a calf injury. Benjamin Cunningham, who has 27 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown, likely will get the bulk of the touches if Stacy can’t go. Brian Quick and Jared Cook have combined for 40 receptions for more than 500 yards and three touchdowns, as the Rams have 15 passing plays that have produced 20 or more yards. The Rams have scored a combined 59 points in their last two games. Defensively, the St. Louis Rams are allowing 29.8 points, 344.8 yards, and they’ve forced six turnovers and one sack. Alec Ogletree leads the Rams with 27 tackles and Jo-Lonn Dunbar has four tackles for loss.

The 49ers are 22-6 ATS in their last 28 Monday games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games. The Rams are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Monday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The home team is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings.

The points here with a home dog on Monday night is tempting, but there's no doubt that the 49ers are the better team here. I also don't like that the Rams defense hasn't been forcing many big plays to change the outcome of games. The Rams are just a flat team, while the 49ers still have a point to prove to the rest of the NFL with many questions surrounding their franchise. Give me San Fran and the small chalk.
