The Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons travel across the water to play Sunday at Wembley Stadium.
The Detroit Lions continue to win without wide receiver Calvin Johnson, which includes a last-minute win last week over the New Orleans Saints. Johnson traveled with the team and remains questionable with an ankle injury. The Lions keep getting it done on the defensive side of the ball, as they’re allowing just 15 points, 290.3 yards, and they’ve forced 11 turnovers and 21 sacks. The Lions have allowed no more than 24 points this season. DeAndre Levy leads the Lions with 68 tackles and George Johnson has four sacks. Offensively, Matthew Stafford is completing 63.1 percent of his passes for nine touchdowns and six interceptions. Golden Tate has really stepped up lately with 100-plus receiving yards in three of his last four games, and the Lions have 22 passing plays of 20 or more yards. The Detroit Lions ground game is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry, but Joique Bell has scored in his last two contests.

The Atlanta Falcons have lost four straight and head coach Mike Smith has to be feeling the pressure. The issues for the Falcons begin on defense, as they’re allowing 28.4 points, 412.1 yards, and they’ve forced 12 turnovers and seven sacks. The Falcons have allowed 24 or more points in eight of their last 10 games. Paul Worrilow leads the Falcons with 74 tackles and Robert Alford has two interceptions. Offensively, Matt Ryan is completing 64 percent of his passes for 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Ryan has thrown just one touchdown in three consecutive games, and the Falcons have lost six straight when he throws two or less touchdowns. Julio Jones and Roddy White have combined for over 1,000 yards and six touchdowns. The Falcons ground game is averaging 4.5 yards per carry and Steven Jackson has rushed for less than 50 yards in four straight games.
The Lions are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games on grass and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in October. The Falcons are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games in Week 8 and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Lions are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
I'm not sure how anybody can back the Atlanta Falcons with the way they've been playing. The Falcons are falling apart week to week and seem to be due for a change in the front office. The Lions are one of the more balanced teams in the NFL and have the top rated defense. You have to like the Lions by a touchdown, especially if Calvin Johnson plays.
