Panthers vs. Falcons - 11/16/14 NFL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Atlanta Falcons (3-6) at Carolina Panthers (3-6-1)

NFL Football: Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 1:00 pm (Bank of America Stadium)

The Line: Carolina Panthers -1.5 -- Over/Under: 46 See the Latest Odds

The Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers clash Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.

The Atlanta Falcons snapped a five-game losing streak last week and are still just one game out of first place in the NFC South. The issue for the Falcons continues to be a defense that’s allowing 26.4 points, 404.8 yards, and has forced 16 turnovers and 11 sacks. The Atlanta Falcons have lost eight of their last nine games when allowing 20 or more points. Paul Worrilow leads Atlanta with 88 tackles and Robert Alford has 11 pass deflections. Offensively, Matt Ryan is completing 64.9 percent of his passes for 16 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Ryan has four touchdowns and one pick in his last four games, and the Falcons have lost seven straight games when he throws at least one interception. Julio Jones and Roddy White have combined for more than 1,300 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while Devonta Freeman is the only other player with 20 or more catches. The Falcons are averaging 4.2 yards per carry, and Antone Smith and Steven Jackson have combined for six of the Falcons eight rushing touchdowns.

Panthers vs. Falcons - 11/16/14 NFL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Carolina Panthers have not won a game in over a month but are also one game back in the brutal NFC South. A Panthers defense that was elite last season is allowing 28.1 points, 376.8 yards, and has forced 16 turnovers and 21 sacks. The Carolina Panthers have allowed 30-plus points in five of their last eight games, a number they allowed just once last season. Luke Kuechly leads Carolina with 105 tackles and Dwan Edwards has four sacks. Offensively, Cam Newton is completing 58.1 percent of his passes for 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Newton has scored three total touchdowns and thrown four picks in his last two games, and the Panthers are 1-4-1 this season when he throws at least one interception. Kelvin Benjamin and Greg Olson have combined for more than 1,300 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, while Jerricho Cotchery has 17 targets in his last three games. The Panthers are averaging 3.6 yards per carry, as Newton is still the only Carolina player with a 100-yard rushing game.

The Falcons are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. NFC South. The Panthers are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 home games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. NFC South. The home team is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 meetings.

Both of these teams have been beyond brutal, but the Panthers have been a lot better at home than the Falcons have been on the road. After all, two of the three wins for the Carolina Panthers have come on their home field and they nearly knocked off the Seattle Sehawks a few weeks ago. While this pick may be a little scary, the Panthers should get the job done here and cover the small number.
