As America prepares for Turkey Day (otherwise known as National Football Day around these parts), it’s time to start thinking about all of the things we’re thankful for. Like not having torn pectoral muscles. Sorry Ryan Mallett. You guessed it, it’s injury report day. Here goes.

Top Ten Worst NFL Injuries (Week 12 Edition)

USA TODAY Sports

1. We’ll lead-off with the aforementioned Houston Texans QB, Ryan Mallett. Mallet evidently strained his pec in warmups and an MRI on Monday confirmed that he tore the muscle during the game (which was disastrous from a statistical standpoint). Mallett’s season ended just as it began. Look for Ryan Fitzpatrick to be under center for the Texans for the remainder of the year.

2. Cleveland Browns S Tashaun Gipson collided with teammate Joe Haden near the end of the Browns’ win over the Texans on Sunday. Gipson, who leads the league with 6 interceptions on the year, has been officially diagnosed with a torn MCL and will miss the remainder of the regular season. Gotta watch that friendly fire, boys.

3. Kyle Fuller, CB for the Chicago Bears, left Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to the half and didn’t return. Fuller was limping pretty badly and it was later confirmed that he sprained his MCL. This is significantly better than a torn ligament, obviously, but I don’t expect Fuller to be recovered in time to play in tomorrow’s Thanksgiving Day game.

4. Cincinnati Bengals’ RT Andre Smith left Sunday’s match-up during the first quarter with what seems to be a badly torn triceps muscle. The odds are good that Smith with miss the remainder of the regular season (and potentially the play-offs too). When Marshall Newhouse as forced to step-in for Smith earlier this month, let’s just say it wasn’t ideal, so this could be a big blow to Cincy.

5. Aqib Talib, Denver Broncos’ CB, left Sunday’s (narrow) win over the Miami Dolphins with an injured hamstring. Talib briefly returned, then missed the remainder of the game. The Broncs’ secondary would definitely notice if Talib misses significant time, but I don’t see it being the absolute end of the world for the squad either.

6. Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, TE for the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers, left Sunday’s loss against Da Bears with an apparent back injury. If Sefarian-Jenkins misses much time, it would leave a dent in the Bucs’ already thin receiving corps.

7. Cooper Helfet, Seattle Seahawks’ TE, suffered an ankle sprain during Sunday’s critical win over the Cardinals. Helfet left the game in the fourth quarter and didn’t return. His status for Week 13 isn’t clear at this point.

8. Veteran Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs seems to have strained his groin during the team’s victory on Sunday. While there’s been no official word, I’d say Briggs isn’t likely to be on the field when the team plays tomorrow.

9. Taylor Lewan, rookie LT for the Tennessee Titans, was forced out of Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with an ankle injury. Lewan has been a bright spot for the Titans this season, so fans should be hoping he isn’t out indefinitely.

10. Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch was sidelined for two series early in Sunday’s game, reportedly due to an upset stomach. Speculation, nonetheless, is running rampant that Lynch was actually suffering from pain due to his well-documented back problems. There’s no reason Lynch shouldn’t see action in Week 13, though.
