TV:

Today’s the day to bid your favorite NFL team a fond farewell if they’re not headed to the playoffs. Week 17 begins in just a few hours, and in the meantime there’s plenty to go over in our daily wrap-up. Let’s check it out while we’re waiting on those kickoffs.

We got a little extra information on Saints TE Jimmy Graham’s injured shoulder this weekend. He called playing through the ailment “a battle,” and reported that he’ll be undergoing an MRI once the season is over (which, for the Saints, will come today against Tampa Bay).
The MRI will reveal whether or not Graham needs surgery on his shoulder, which he injured in Week 5. He’s in major danger of putting up the fewest receiving yards since his rookie year in 2010.

Let’s take a moment to talk about the Chiefs--more specifically Alex Smith. The KC QB will be out for today’s matchup against the Chargers, thanks to a lacerated spleen that was just now diagnosed within the past couple of days.
In turn, that puts No. 2 Chase Daniel in line to be the starter, which dims the Chiefs’ hopes a little further.
Kansas City needs a few things to happen in order to make the playoffs. First and foremost, they need to win against San Diego. Assuming that happens, they need Cleveland to beat Baltimore and Jacksonville to beat Houston. Although not a complete impossibility, the signs aren’t pointing toward a repeat playoff berth.
Smith, for what it’s worth, is expected to be out for about a month and a half.

We guess the drama simply isn’t over for the Browns’ Josh Gordon. He missed out on Cleveland’s walkthrough yesterday and was suspended by the team. For what it’s worth, rookie QB Johnny Manziel was absent as well--he’s on IR right now and may not have known he had to be present. Manziel was fined for missing the walkthrough.

The Jets’ Rex Ryan has reportedly cleaned out his office in anticipation of his firing as the team’s head coach.
Jets owner Woody Johnson hired Charley Casserly as a consultant this past week, and Casserly reportedly has begun reaching out to potential head coaching replacements (and GM replacements as well--current general manager John Idzik is expected to be getting fired too).
We may find out Ryan and Idzik’s fates tomorrow on what’s affectionately known as “Black Monday” around the league.
