NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
February 26, 2015
We’re creeping toward another off-season weekend in the NFL, and in a couple of weeks we’ll be officially upon a new league year. In the meantime, there’s plenty to talk about so let’s check out our daily headlines and see who’s in the news.
In a somewhat surprising move yesterday, the Packers cut veteran LB A.J. Hawk. He had been with the team since 2006.
Hawk totaled 923 tackles, nine picks and three forced fumbles during his time in Green Bay. Cutting him saves the team $3.5 million against the cap this year.

It hasn’t taken long to find suitors for the Ravens’ Pernell McPhee. He’s set to be hitting the free agent market next month, and the Colts are one team that’s very interested in his services.
McPhee is looking for a contract that’s too rich for the Ravens’ blood. He’ll be trying to get somewhere in the neighborhood of $8-10 million on his next deal.
Good news for Texans OT David Quessenberry, who was diagnosed with lymphoma last year. He’s now officially in remission.
No word yet as to when Quessenberry will be able to get back to the football field, but it’s definitely good to see him doing well.
Speaking of the Texans, let’s check in on QB Ryan Mallett. He’s still in the recovery phases from his torn pectoral muscle and isn’t back to 100 percent just yet.
Mallett says he’s “getting close” to being back to his old self, but we’ll see how it goes. In the meantime, the Texans will likely be trying to upgrade at the quarterback position.
Speaking of teams looking to upgrade certain positions, the Browns are doing that at wide receiver. Word is that the team has some interest in former Cardinal Tedd Ginn, but we won’t know for sure how intent they are on signing him for a little while yet.
