The new NFL league year is now a couple of weeks old, and with the league meetings happening right now there’s plenty of buzz ahead of next month’s draft. With that in mind, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there right now.

Bengals fans can go ahead and start worrying about the contract of A.J. Green, who will become a free agent after this season.
The team’s front office is already prepping for that possibility, and will use the franchise tag on him if they can’t work out a deal before then.
If that happens, however, Cincinnati will have a lot of money locked up in Green for 2015 and it will hamstring them as far as other free agents go. It’s definitely a situation to watch this year.

Speaking of players who will be free agents after 2015, Eli Manning is one of those. The Giants are reportedly not in a rush to get a new deal done, however.
The team seems to be showing some trepidation about shelling out the big money for Eli, similar to what Pittsburgh did with Ben Roethlisberger’s five-year, $99 million deal.

The New York Jets will be hosting free agent LB Spencer Paysinger today. He played in 15 games for the Giants this past year and put up 15 total tackles.

All of those fans who had pipe dreams about their teams trading for New Orleans QB Drew Brees can officially pop that bubble.
According to team GM Mickey Loomis, Brees will not be traded and he’s not on the block. This news comes despite the fact that Brees had a rough year in 2014 and will hit the team with a $27 million cap number this season.

The Cardinals inked WR Nathan Slaughter yesterday. He recently attended the veteran combine and is the first player from that group to sign with a team.
