Position: Defensive End
Career Stats: 120 tackles, 17.5 sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
Strengths: Randy Gregory is freakishly athletic with a great first step and a strong pursuit of ball carriers. Gregory has a strong motor, solid quickness and is able to make plays from sideline-to-sideline. Add that speed to an impressive package of spin moves, and Gregory is one of the better pass rushers in this draft. Gregory has great length, active hands and plays with good pad level. Gregory’s athleticism also allows him to play in either a 3-4 or 4-3 defense. Also, unlike some other defensive players in this draft, Randy Gregory doesn’t take many plays off and fights for the ball until the play is over.
Weaknesses: Randy Gregory could add some weight and strength to his small frame, as it really impacts his ability against the ground game. Gregory had concussion issues and knee surgery last season. Gregory has also had issues with marijuana, which includes a failed drug test at the NFL combine.
Projection: Randy Gregory has all of the ability in the world to be a productive pass rusher at the next level, but his off-the-field issues leave his draft stock up in the air. I personally would take Gregory immediately despite several issues with weed, but other teams are sure to shy away. Either way, Gregory will be a first round pick and should have a long career at the next level.
