2015 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jay Ajayi

USA TODAY Sports

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 221

Position: Running Back

Career Stats: 678 rushing attempts, 3,796 rushing yards and 50 rushing touchdowns.

Strengths: Jay Ajayi is a former soccer player, so the great footwork is there. Ajayi has a strong upper-body that he uses to break tackles and doesn’t mind being the workhorse for an offense. Ajayi is an old school runner who runs low to the ground, doesn’t use much wasted motion and doesn’t shy away from from contact. Ajayi plays with an edge and is going to give his team everything he has on gameday. Jay Ajayi is also an underrated pass catcher with soft hands, as he hauled in 46 passes in his last two seasons. While he comes with a bit of baggage, Ajayi did a fine job of bouncing back and become a leader for Boise State his last season on the team.

Weaknesses: I’d worry about Jay Ajayi’s workload, as he rushed the ball 347 times just last season. Ajayi isn’t as shifty in the open field as you’d expect. Ajayi has also had several off-the-field issues, which includes an arrest back in 2011 for stealing. Ajayi suffered a major knee injury in 2011, as well.

Projection: Jay Ajayi is a player who is flying under the radar for whatever reason, as he has the potential and skill set to be selected as early as the second round. Ajayi is a running back who can contribute right away and eventually be one of the main contributors for a team looking for tough nosed running. I’m fairly high on Ajayi, and think he’s going to be really successful at the next level.
