Position: Wide Receiver
Career Stats: 92 receptions, 1,497 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.
Strengths: Mario Alford has elite top end speed, making him a threat every time he touches the football. Alford can take the top off a defense and puts a ton of pressure on corners who are afraid to get beat deep. Alford does a nice job of catching the ball away from his body and is pretty good at tracking the football in the air. Alford plays more physical than you would expect from a receiver of his size. Alford is a smart receiver who does his best to help his quarterback when in trouble. Mario Alford has a strong work ethic and is quite durable for his small frame. No character issues that I know of. Alford spent some time on special teams and could see a similar role at the next level.
Weaknesses: Mario Alford isn’t the biggest receiver in the world and could struggle against physical corners. Alford didn’t prove he’s a consistent blocker. Alford could also improve his route running. Mario Alford was somewhat of a one-year wonder at WVU and took advantage of single coverage due to playing with Kevin White.
Projection: Mario Alford is a home run hitter who probably would be getting more shine if White wasn’t his teammate. Every offense needs playmakers, and that’s exactly what Alford is. There’s certainly a place for Alford in the league, which is why I’d take him starting in the mid third round range.
