NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
April 20, 2015
We’ve got just 10 days left until the 2015 NFL Draft, and we’re coming off a pretty active couple of days when it comes to news around the league. Let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there and see who’s making waves.
New Colts WR Andre Johnson made some comments this weekend about his situation and his thoughts on signing with Indianapolis.
Johnson says he didn’t join up with the Colts to get back at Houston, who he’ll remain in the division with and see twice this year. Indianapolis gave him the best chance to win, he said.
Johnson was with the Texans for 12 years and it’ll be strange to see him in a new uniform. He’s coming off a decent season, but posted a disappointing YPC average of 11.0, which is his lowest total since 2005.

The Jaguars made a couple of moves this week that made headlines, so let’s check those out.
The team restructured longtime TE Marcedes Lewis’ contract, but didn’t give him an extension. The move was designed to reduce his cap hit, which was set at $8.2 million. This is the last year of his deal.
Also, Jacksonville signed free agent center Stefen Wisniewski this weekend. The deal is for one year at a reported $2.5 million. Wisniewski has played at both center and guard during his career, so he’ll bring a degree of flexibility to the Jags line.
Niners LB Michael Wilhoite will likely be receiving a contract extension soon. The team brass say they’re working on it, so we should see an announcement soon.
San Francisco is in a bit of a bind after two retirements in their linebacker corps this off-season, so Wilhoite is now a priority.
The Dolphins have until May 3 to decide on the fifth-year option for QB Ryan Tannehill, and as of now it's unclear if they'll do so. If they pick it up, the option would run through the 2016 season and cost the team around $15 million.
