USA TODAY Sports
Position: Running Back
Career Stats: 297 rushing attempts, 1,431 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Strengths: Matt Jones is a massive running back who runs just like his size would indicate. Jones is an extreme power back who does a nice job of keeping his legs moving and loves contact. Jones is a willing blocker and does a solid job in pass protection. Jones is a competitive player who plays with a chip on his shoulder and doesn’t waste much motion. Jones has some quickness to his game and can explode through the whole at times. While not a polished route runner, Jones showed much better hands last season when he caught 11 of his 19 career receptions. Matt Jones is a hard worker and comes with zero off-the-field baggage.
Weaknesses: Matt Jones has almost zero vision of the field and isn’t going to make many guys miss in the open field. Jones is very impatient and needs to do a better job of waiting for his blocks to set up. Jones had some slight issues with ball security. Jones had knee surgery in high school and also tore his meniscus in 2013.
Projection: Matt Jones is worth a pick in the late rounds, as there’s always a place on an NFL roster for a power back. Jones blocks well and brings that toughness to an offense. I’d draft Jones starting in the fifth round.
