NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
April 29, 2015
There’s just one more day left--the 2015 NFL Draft gets going tomorrow night. The anticipation is rocking at a fever pitch right now, so before we get going let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there in the headlines.
The Bengals exercised fifth-year options on a couple of guys yesterday, so let’s see who those names are. The deals included both CB Dre Kirkpatrick and G Kevin Zeitler.
Kirkpatrick appeared in all 16 games last year, posting 23 tackles. Zeitler missed four games due to a calf injury but started the other 12.

Will we see the Jets make a deal including defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson? It seems possible.
According to reports, at least two teams have approached the team about a possible trade, and with the Jets picking No. 6 overall tomorrow (which could net them Leonard Williams), a deal for Wilkerson might not be too far-fetched.
It’ll be an interesting story to follow over the next day or so.
The Falcons’ Joe Hawley is continuing his rehab at camp this week; he’s still working his way back from a torn ACL and MCL.
Hawley was hurt back in September, but the feeling is that he should be back to 100 percent by the time training camp rolls around in mid-summer.
The Broncos waived defensive end Quanterus Smith yesterday. He played in 15 games for Denver last year, posting 11 tackles.
Smith went to IR due to a knee issue during the playoffs.
Look for Shaquil Barrett to get an expanded role now that Smith is gone.
Let’s finish up with a couple of Rams items from this week. The team exercised their fifth-year option on DT Michael Brockers, which will keep him in St. Louis through 2016. He’s a No. 14 overall draft pick from 2012.
Also, the team isn’t expected to pick up the 2016 option for safety Mark Barron. He came to St. Louis in a midseason trade during 2014.
