NFL Daily Updates: News From Around the League, Schedule and More
August 19, 2015
We’ve got more NFL preseason action coming our way over the next few days, and in the meantime there’s plenty to talk about. Let’s take our daily look at the league news in today’s wrap-up.
Although it’s technically possible that Jets QB Geno Smith could go on short-term injured reserve, it seems more likely that he won’t, according to team brass.
If Smith were to go on IR, he’d have to miss out on the first eight games of the season at a minimum. As of right now, it seems he’ll be missing four weeks if he recovers as expected from his broken jaw surgery.
Smith is scheduled to rejoin the team this week.

The Patriots and Niners made a minor move yesterday. San Fran traded TE Asante Cleveland to New England, in exchange for OL Jordan Devey.
Cleveland was a rookie last year, playing in six games. He didn’t post any catches, though.
As for Devey, he was an undrafted free agent in 2013 and worked his way into a key role. He played in four games in 2014, starting four.
It’s been a while since we’ve done a Dennis Pitta update, so let’s see how he’s doing. According to the latest update, the team is targeting a midseason return for the injured TE.
Pitta will remain on the PUP list as the season begins, so he’ll be out for a while. He’s coming off his second dislocated hip.
In other injury news, Cardinals RB Andre Ellington seems to be back to normal now. He was practicing in full yesterday.
Ellington has been fighting a hamstring injury, but did manage to appear in the team’s preseason opener. He posted three yards on three carries, with two catches for 59 yards, showcasing his capabilities as a receiver.
