The Line: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3 -- Over/Under: 42 See the Latest Odds

TV: CBS

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans face off on Sunday in a NFL battle of the teams with the two worst records last season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the worst record in the NFL last season and they can do nothing but improve. The Buccaneers offense averaged 292.3 yards and 17.3 points per game ranking near the bottom in most offensive categories. Tampa Bay used their number one overall draft pick to take QB Jameis Winston out of Florida State who has questionable judgment off of the field and several weaknesses on the field but who is a proven winner, at least at the college level. The Bucs are hoping running back Doug martin returns to his rookie form but they have Charles Sims among others who are also capable and at receiver they are talented with Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans giving them a lot of range. The Buccaneers defense allowed 368.9 yards per game that ranked them 25th and they allowed 25.6 points per game. The Buccaneers defense is anchored in the middle by Gerald McCoy while LB Lavonte David and SS Major Wright can cover a lot of ground. The Buccaneers aren’t likely contenders but they should take at least a small step forward.

The Tennessee Titans are also looking to take a step forward and they are looking to do it with a strong core of young players. The Titans had one of the worst offenses in the NFL last season averaging just 15.9 points and 303.7 yards per game. Tennessee’s first round draft choice QB Marcus Mariota will make his first start and the hopes are high for last year’s Heisman Trophy winner. Bishop Sankey looks to duplicate an epic college career as the Titans RB while Kendall Wright is a game breaker as Tennessee’s primary receiver while Harry Douglas, Justin Hunter, and Dorial Green-Beckham should get some work as well. The Titans defense was second to last in points allowed last season at 27.4 per game and 27th in yards per game allowed at 373. Brian Orakpo is one of the more established players on the Titans defense as are Michael Griffin and Perrish Cox for a unit that can’t be left on the field too long. The Titans have a lot of the pieces in place but may be a few players short to compete in the AFC South this season.

Tampa Bay is 15-35-1 against the spread in their last 51 home games, 2-7 against the spread in their last nine week 1 games, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six September games. Tennessee is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight week 1 games, 0-4 against the spread in their last four road games, and 15-33-4 against the spread in their last 52 games. The home team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.

This is probably the worst game on the board for the weekend and I see it being sloppy and ugly but I will give the edge to the home tam in what is a lean at best.
