The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping for big things this season as they embark on another competitive schedule starting with the Houston Texans on the road in week one. The Chiefs were highly criticized last year after finishing without a touchdown from a wide receiver, so in order to rectify that they went out and landed Jeremy Maclin from the Philadelphia Eagles who combined with Jamaal Charles will be leading the KC attack. Alex Smith won't wow you with numbers but he has always been an efficient signal caller and this Chiefs team will look to get off on the right foot against a Texans group that will be a force defensively led by JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney. The Chiefs need to start fast and allow the ground game to open up and force the Texans defense to sit back but with this being the season opener there could be some growing pains for all units involved on both sidelines.
The Texans meanwhile are hoping for a resurgence in the AFC South as they look to be theonly candidate to take down the Colts but with some serious question marks offensively they could be in tough to do so. Arian Foster will likely be out for the season opener and there is no timetable for his return and without Andre Johnson through the air there will be a season of transition for Deandre Hopkins and rookie Jaelen Strong. Houston's defense obviously will be strong and they'll have to be against this Chiefs offense who can beat you through the air, on the ground and in check packages as Travis Kelce figures to have a significant role this season. To me, this is one of the closer games on the docket for opening weekend and the line reflects that and while it may not be the trendy thing to do here I think the best option is to play the total. While both teams have weapons on offense I think defense takes the cake here in a game that should be relatively low scoring and I like the under to cash in here.
