NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Playoffs Schedule and More
January 20, 2016
The countdown to the Conference Championships in the NFL stands at four days, and there’s plenty to go over between now and then. With that in mind, let’s visit some of the notable players and situations out there in our daily wrap-up.
Bad news for the Broncos today. Kick returner Omar Bolden was placed on season-ending injured reserve, thanks to a knee injury.

The Eagles hired Jim Schwartz as their defensive coordinator yesterday. He last coached in 2014 with the Bills in the same position.
Schwartz will put the Eagles in a 4-3 scheme this coming year.
The Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger will not need surgery on his injured throwing shoulder. His ligaments should be able to heal on their own.
Roethlisberger should be just fine for training camp.
Allen Hurns had sports hernia surgery yesterday. He’s coming off a breakout season and should be 100 percent for training camp activities.
The Patriots put LB Jerod Mayo on injured reserve due to his shoulder yesterday. That will end his season.
Mayo was injured in the third quarter of Saturday’s win. He played in just over a third of the team’s snaps this year, which means they’ll probably cut him in the off-season to save $8 million against the cap--unless he agrees to restructure.
The Cardinals’ Chris Johnson will be ready to go if the team makes it to the Super Bowl. He resumed practicing last week.
Johnson is getting over a broken leg and IR stint. He’s not eligible to return in the Conference Championship, but could get back in there for a change-of-pace position behind David Johnson if the team can beat Carolina.
