NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
February 12, 2016
Plenty has happened in the past few days since Super Bowl 50, and there’s a lot to talk about each day in the NFL. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look at the headlines and see which players are in the news right now.
Sources close to the Broncos are expecting the team to use its franchise tag on Von Miller this upcoming season while the two sides continue to work on a long-term contract.
This method has worked for the Broncos recently, as it did with Demaryius Thomas this past year. Miller will use the six-year, $101 million deal of Justin Houston as a jumping-off point in contract negotiations.

Chargers fans can expect new OC Ken Whisenhunt to utilize RB Melvin Gordon more as a receiver in this coming season.
Whisenhunt recently commented on Gordon’s ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He caught 33 of his 37 targets this past year for 192 yards. San Diego also has Danny Woodhead as a pass-catching RB, so with two formidable weapons we should see them working on that area in 2016.
Word is that the Browns are expected to take a quarterback at No. 2 overall in this year’s draft. That is, unless the team gets someone in free agency or via trade.
The free agent market isn’t so great for quarterbacks this year, so it’s unlikely the Browns will get someone outside the draft. That leaves Carson Wentz (North Dakota State) or Jared Goff (Cal) as the most likely targets. Neither seems to be a sure-fire top-10 pickup, however.
The Texans will likely be in the market for a running back in free agency or the draft this off-season. They’re expected to move on from No. 1 RB Arian Foster, who tore his Achilles this past season and is due $6.5 million in 2016.
Foster will likely get cut and have to find a new home on the open market. As for the Texans, there are a number of notable free agent RB targets they’ll be kicking the tires on.
The Bengals’ Vontaze Burfict had his three-game suspension upheld by the league yesterday.
There was little surprise in this; Burfict’s hit in the Wild Card round was downright ugly.
