The Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts meet up in the Hall of Fame game on Sunday night to kick off the NFL preseason at the Tom Benson HOF Stadium.
The Packers head into the season with Lombardi on their minds as things have been over the course of the last few years and with Aaron Rodgers leading the charge behind center it is clear why they are considered a playoff contender once again this year. Green Bay was without Jordy Nelson for all of last season and while it was expected we would see him bounce back this year he has suffered a bit of a setback and his presence may not be felt until a bit later this season and certainly not in this preseason opener. The Pack have a ton of weapons on both sides of the ball but they also have some holes to be filled and this could be a good opportunity for some of their scout players and back ups to make a name for themselves as they are on the national stage and could jump into the forefront as meaningful games are just a month away.

The Colts meanwhile head into this season coming off a respectable 8-8 season but expectations for them this year are at an all time low as many are down on the Colts for 2016-17 and part of that has to do with holes in their lineup and some of it to do with the other teams in the AFC South getting better. Indy had been the class of the division for years before their dreadful campaign that spelled the end of Peyton Manning’s tenure and the beginning of Andrew Luck’s and while they have just given the latter a rich new contract to be the face of the franchise for years to come he doesn’t have a ton of weapons to work with beyond TY Hilton. Indy does have veteran Frank Gore running the ball and Vontae Davis anchoring the defense in a contract year but Indy could be in trouble if they can’t find a way to stay in front of the surging Jaguars, the division winners from Houston, and a Tennessee side that drafted well and get Demarco Murray.
The Packers are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and have played under in 11 of their last 15 while the Colts are 4-1 ATS in their last five on turf and have played to the under in 9 of their last 13 on turf. Indy to me is the team that needs this game more than the Packers but even so I like the first string of Green Bay much better and even though it is a pick em I will take the Cheese Heads.
