The Detroit Lions look to muster something in the offensive zone in their preseason finale as they host the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field on Thursday.
The Bills head into Thursday night’s game against the Lions looking to shake off a preseason week three loss to the Washington Redskins while finalizing some starting roster positions that remain up in the air for the AFC East hopefuls. Buffalo is another year in to the Rex Ryan era and he will aim to do one better than he has done in the two years previous with his new club and anything short of a wild card spot or playoff berth will be considered an underachievement and could possibly call for a premature change at the helm. Buffalo has some very nice pieces in place on both sides of the ball and if Tyrod Taylor can live up to the billing as the team’s franchise quarterback than they could surprise some teams and challenge for a playoff spot out of the AFC East as they are right in the line it seems like with the Dolphins and Jets and just behind the temporarily Brady-less Pats.
The Lions meanwhile are dealing with life after Calvin Johnson and it’ll be interesting to see how their offense adjusts without one of the best to play the game on their roster as he decided to cut his NFL dream short and retire. However, Matt Stafford remains a top end quarterback in terms of getting the ball down field and he does have a handful of weapons at his disposal still and while there may be some transition this season and the Lions may suffer some tough losses I think they are getting underlooked a bit. As for tonight’s game they are slight favourites thanks to them playing at home but if either team is going to make a statement they need their offenses to wake up.
The Bills are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six on turf and 0-3-1 ATS in their last four road games while the Lions are 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall. I anticipate more starters for the Bills getting reps here but this game should come down to the wire and as such I will take the Bills and the points.
