The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys square off Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium to begin the 2016 season.
The New York Giants hope to get off to a fast start in a wide open NFC East and begin a new era under coach Ben McAdoo. The Giants will continue to be solid on offense with Eli Manning leading the way, a QB who has thrown for 65 touchdowns the last two seasons. Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the top receivers in the league, and he should have some pressure off him if Victor Cruz can remain healthy and running back Rashad Jennings can build on his 4.4 yards per carry average last season. Either way, the Giants shouldn’t have trouble scoring this season. Defensively, the New York Giants finished last season ranked last in total yards allowed and 31st in scoring defense. A defensive end tandem of Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon could make the Giants defense lightyears better if they can consistently produce a pass rush.

The Dallas Cowboys hope to avoid the injury bug again after winning just four games last season. The bad news is that Tony Romo will miss half the season with a back injury, so the quarterback duties will be handed to rookie Dak Prescott. The Mississippi State standout shined in the preseason, but we all know playing against backups in a meaningless game is way different than playing starters for 60 minutes. The good news is that the Cowboys still have the best offensive line in football and a trio of Dez Bryant, Jason Witten and rookie Ezekiel Elliott can produce big time plays. Defensively, the Dallas Cowboys finished last season ranked 17th in total yards allowed and 17th in scoring defense. A healthy Sean Lee at linebacker makes the world of difference for Dallas’ defense, as this unit is pretty decent when he’s actually on the field.
The Giants are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 1 and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The Cowboys are 10-25-1 ATS in their last 36 home games and 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Giants are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings in Dallas.
I was high on the Cowboys and actually had them as my Super Bowl pick. That was until Romo got hurt and left the offense in the hands of a rookie. The Cobwoys are still a solid team with loads of talent, but not having an experienced QB hurts, as we saw last season with this same team. The Giants are healthy and have an actual QB we know who can move the ball.
Have to take the Giants on the road in a pick em game.
