The Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars open the season Sunday at EverBank Field.
The Green Bay Packers enter the season once again as a Super Bowl favorite and the favorites to win the NFC North. A lot of that certainly has to do with the play of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has racked up more than 8,000 passing yards and 69 touchdowns the last two seasons. When you throw in a healthy Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson, the Packers offense is going to be one of the scariest in the entire league, especially if Eddie Lacy can get going at running back. Defensively, the Green Bay Packers were 15th in the NFL last season in total yards allowed and 12th in scoring defense. Green Bay should once again be a restable unit with playmakers Julius Peppers, HaHa Clinton-Dix and Clay Matthews all returning for another season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have won just 12 games in three seasons under head coach Gus Bradley. Offensively, there’s a lot to like with the Jags, as youngsters T.J. Yeldon, Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns are all playmakers and have promising careers in this league. The problem is Jacksonville is very young and will continue to go through growing pains until guys figure things out. Another step forward from Bortles would be huge for Jacksonville’s overall improvement. Defensively, the Jacksonville Jaguars finished 25th in total yards allowed and 31st in scoring defense last season. Adding cornerback Prince Amukamara should help improve those numbers and getting Dante Fowler Jr. on the field doesn’t hurt.
The Packers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Jaguars are 10-21-1 ATS in their last 32 home games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Packers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
I like the Jags as a team on the rise and can make money on them this season in some spots. This likely isn't one of them. Rogers and company will move the ball like they usually do and put points on the board. I'm not sure the Jaguars have enough horses yet to keep up. Give me the reasonable chalk and the far better team.
