The Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers square off Thursday night in a key NFC West matchup at Levi's Stadium on CBS.
The Arizona Cardinals are desperate for a victory after a rough 1-3 start to the season despite being Super Bowl contenders before the year started. Drew Stanton is completing 33.3 percent of his passes for 48 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Stanton is expected to replace the injured Carson Palmer, and he has nine touchdown passes since 2014. Larry Fitzgerald and John Brown have combined for 516 receiving yards and three touchdowns while David Johnson has 14 receptions. The Arizona Cardinals ground game is averaging 100.8 yards per contest, and Johnson leads the way with 300 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Arizona is allowing 20 points and 313.5 yards per game. Tony Jefferson leads the Arizona Cardinals with 39 tackles, Chandler Jones has four sacks and Marcus Cooper has two interceptions.

The San Francisco 49ers could also use a feel good victory in order to snap a three-game losing streak and rebound from a tough loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Blaine Gabbert is completing 58 percent of his passes for 728 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. Gabbert has one or less touchdown passes in eight of his last 10 games. Jeremy Kerley and Garrett Celek have combined for 333 receiving yards and one touchdown while Torrey Smith has nine receptions. The San Francisco 49ers ground game is averaging 114 yards per contest, and Carlos Hyde leads the way with 299 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, San Francisco is allowing 26.8 points and 390 yards per game. NaVorro Bowman leads the San Francisco 49ers with 35 tackles, Ahmad Brooks has two sacks and Antoine Bethea has one interception.
The 49ers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games and 3-8 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. The Cardinals are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Cardinals are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 meetings in San Francisco and the underdog is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings. The under is 8-3 in Cardinals last 11 games overall and the under is 19-7 in 49ers last 26 home games.
As if the Cardinals didn't look like frauds enough, they now lose their starting quarterback in Palmer and Stanton is left to pickup the pieces on short rest. This can't be good for the Arizona Cardinals. The San Francisco 49ers haven't been as bad as most people expected and probably should have beaten the Cowboys last week after getting a big early lead. However, the loss of Bowman is really going to hurt the 49ers defense. This is a tough game to pick simply because the Cardinals need the win if they're going to fulfill expectations, but I'm not sure you can trust a backup quarterback on the road with short rest.
With most Thursday games, I don't love this pick at all, but if forced to pick, I'd side with the 49ers at home and the free points.
