Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles - 10/9/16 NFL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions are in a must-win situation after a rough 1-3 start to the season. Matthew Stafford is completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 1,198 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. Stafford has two or more touchdown passes in eight of his last 10 games. Marvin Jones and Eric Ebron have combined for 692 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Theo Riddick has 20 receptions. The Detroit Lions ground game is averaging 92.3 yards per contest, and Riddick leads the way with 122 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Detroit is allowing 25.5 points and 386.3 yards per game. Tahir Whitehead leads the Detroit Lions with 31 tackles, Kerry Hyder has five sacks and Glover Quin has one interception.

The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Lions are 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games. The home team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings and the over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.

This line is rather surprising considering the way both teams have played the first month of the season. The Detroit Lions are struggling defensively and still don't know how to finish games, which was a huge problem last season. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles found lighting in a bottle in Carson Wentz, have the best defense in the NFL in terms of points allowed and have had an extra week to prepare for this game. Yes, the Lions have had a tough schedule with three of their four games being on the road, but they're still the Lions and still find ways to lose.

I'll gladly take the Philadelphia Eagles and the low chalk.
