The Line: Cleveland Browns +2.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

TV: CBS

On Sunday, October 30 in Week 8 NFL action, we’ll be getting a dose of two AFC teams on the downswing as the New York Jets visit the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Jets are coming into this one at a wimpy 2-5, but were able to hold off the Ravens in Week 7 24-16 and halt a four-game losing streak. In that game, embattled QB Ryan Fitzpatrick replaced an injured Geno Smith for New York, going 9-of-14 for 120 yards and a TD. Matt Forte held down the Jets’ running game as usual with 30 carries for 100 yards and a score, while Quincy Enunwa was the big receiver with two grabs for 73 yards and a TD.

So far this season for the Jets, Fitzpatrick is 136-of-237 for 1561 yards, six touchdowns and 11 picks, and Forte has been a great pickup on 460 yards on 132 carries for four touchdowns. Brandon Marshall is still the top dog in the New York receiving game with 30 catches for 472 yards and two touchdowns.

Over on the Browns’ side, they’re entering play here with a worst-case-scenario 0-7 record, and are fresh off a 31-17 loss to the Bengals last weekend. During that game, Kevin Hogan went 12-of-24 for 100 yards and two interceptions for Cleveland, while Cody Kessler put up a 9-of-11 line for 82 yards. Hogan also led the rushing game with seven carries for 104 yards and a TD, and Gary Barnidge was the Browns’ lead receiver with six grabs for 66 yards.

The Browns have already had six players throw at least nine passes this year, and that number could climb even higher as the season wears on. For now, Kessler is the tops in the Cleveland QB corral, with an 89-of-133 mark for 947 yards and four touchdowns, while Isaiah Crowell is the top RB on 495 yards and four scores on 95 attempts. Terrell Pryor is the high man in the Cleveland receiving game with 35 catches for 431 yards and three TDs.

The Jets are 7-3-2 ATS in their last 12 games following an ATS win, and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games in October. New York is also 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall, and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six road games.

Meanwhile, the Browns are 2-5 in their last seven games on grass, and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 versus the AFC. Cleveland is also 4-13 ATS in their last 17 games overall, and 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games.

If you’re not a fan of either team, there’s not much to compel you to watch this one. Still, New York looks good here—despite their bad season to date. The Jets have scored 13 points or fewer in three of their last five games, and Cleveland has given up at least 25 in every game this season. As long as Fitzpatrick can take care of the ball and make smart throwing decisions, the Jets should be able to get this game and start a little winning streak.
