The Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions meet up at Ford Field on Thursday in a battle for top spot in the NFC North.
The Vikings have taken a turn for the worse over the last few weeks and have gone from being a shoe in to win the NFC North division crown and lock up a spot in the playoffs, they have shot themselves in the foot and now sit deadlocked with the Lions for top spot. Minnesota did get back in the win column last weekend with a big home field win over the Arizona Cardinals and will look to build on that tomorrow with a Thanksgiving victory against a Lions side that has defied the odds this season. Minnesota’s defense remains their bread and butter but against a Lions defense that has its problems they may be able to break out in a big way offensively as they look to keep Matt Stafford and company at bay.

The Lions meanwhile have been on a roll and look like a legitimate threat in the NFC and that is without Calvin Johnson who retired abruptly in the offseason and left a huge void in the Detroit offense. However, Stafford is having one of his best seasons of his career and he can put a stamp on it with a big effort on Thursday which should propel the Lions to a comfortable place heading into the home stretch of the regular season. Detroit will need to find a way to solve the pesky Vikings defense but Stafford has been strong against good units already this season and a date at home in what should be an exciting atmosphere should be good motivation.
The Vikings are 6-1 in their last seven ATS against a team with a winning record and 1-4 in their last five ATS against a team in the NFC while the Lions are 4-0 in their last four ATS against the NFC and 5-0 in their last five on turf. The Vikings got a big win last weekend but it came against a Cards team that has struggled this season and with Detroit at home I think they eek out a win and cover the low number.
