An AFC East showdown takes place in week 12 as the New England Patriots face off against the New York Jets.
The New England Patriots improved to 8-2 on the year with a 30-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Tom Brady completed 24 of his 40 pass attempts on the day with 280 yards and 4 touchdowns to show for his efforts. Legarrette Blount made good use of his 19 carries, racking up 124 yards in the process. Malcolm Mitchell led the Patriots with 98 receiving yards and a touchdown on 4 catches, while Julian Edelamn caught a team-high 8 balls for 77 yards and a touchdown. James White caught 6 passes out of the backfield for 63 yards and a touchdown while the last TD went to Danny Amendola on one of his 2 receptions. Defensively, the Pats got to 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, sacking him 5 times in the game with Patrick Chung, Donta Hightower, Kyle Van Noy, Malcolm Butler and Rob Ninkovich each putting up a sack in the win. New England also forced a total of 5 fumbles in the game, but were unable to fall on a single one while holding San Fran to just 299 yards of total offense.

The New York Jets had a bye in week 11, which was needed after a sluggish week 10 performance that saw the Jets fall to 3-7 with a 9-6 loss to the L.A. Rams. Bryce Petty got the start with Ryan Fitzpatrick suffering a sprained MCL, and he made the most out of what he could, completing 19 of 32 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown that ended up being cancelled out by an interception. Matt Forte racked up 98 yards on his 20 carries in the game, while Bilal Powell handled the rock 4 times for 37 yards. Powell also made his impact felt through the passing game, as he caught a team-high 7 passes for 52 yards and the Jets’ lone touchdown in the game. Robby Anderson had his most productive game of the season to date, catching 3 passes for a team-high 69 yards. Defensively, it was a battle of attrition for a pair of teams that have trouble moving the ball offensively, making the defenses look solid. The Jets allowed just 280 yards of total offense while sacking Case Keenum a total of 3 times, leading the Rams to go with 1st overall pick Jared Goff despite winning the game. New York also forced a pair of fumbles in the loss that they couldn’t fall on top of to take advantage.
New England is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. the AFC while the over is 27-13 in their last 40 division matchups. New York is 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 division matchups and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 home games. New England is 0-5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
New England has struggled against the number in the last few matchups against New York, but I think this is where it all changes. New York is an absolute mess considering their QB situation and the Patriots smell blood in the water and can see the division title in the horizon. This could get ugly if New York continues to struggle.
Lay the points with New England.
