The Line: Winnipeg Jets +105 / Los Angeles Kings -116 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Los Angeles Kings look to open up the season with back to back victories as they head to Winnipeg to play the Jets who are coming off a season opening victory in Edmonton.

Los Angeles clawed their way back from a  2-1 deficit in Minnesota last night to take a 3-2 shootout victory over the Wild in both team’s season openers and now they’ll look for another positive result heading into Winnipeg to take on the Jets at the MTS Centre.  The Kings are one of the favourites in the Western Conference this season as they return a plethora of talent at both ends of the rink and are among the league’s elite when it comes to discussing potential Stanley Cup favourites. They had a tough task ahead of them playing against the pesky Minnesota Wild last night but netminder Jonathan Quick was brilliant as expected and the Kings like they have done for the last few seasons received timely scoring to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. However, Winnipeg possesses one of the biggest home ice advantages in the league as their home fans are among the rowdiest in professional sports and certainly give their home team all the support they need.

Winnipeg Jets vs. Los Angeles Kings - 10/4/13

Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets opened on the road in Edmonton to face an Oilers team with huge expectations this season and while they had to weather the storm as Edmonton held a number of different leads in the contest it was the Jets who held on for two huge points to start the season. Winnipeg will be a team that competes in full force every night of the week and while they have some talent all over the ice it’ll be the play of their goaltending that will determine how far they will go this season. Ondrej Pavelec has shown flashes of brilliance in his career but needs to be more consistent if the Jets are going to make a difference in the postseason and until he does so Winnipeg will be left out of the conversation of Western Conference powers. However, the Jets are a well balanced team and while the Kings to me are the better team they catch LA in a good spot as they played last night against the Wild in a hard fought affair who now have to head into Winnipeg and deal with the home crowd at MTS who is seeing hockey for the first time this season. Great value on the Jets.
