The Line: Calgary Flames +119 / Montreal Canadiens -131 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds
The Flames will look to continue their surprising start at home on Wednesday night as they host the Montreal Canadiens at the Saddledome.
Montreal has split their first two contests of the season as they dropped their home opener against the Maple Leafs but responded nicely with a victory at the Bell Centre over the Philadelphia Flyers setting up their first road contest against the Flames. Montreal had a very disappointing end to their season last year when they were swept by the Ottawa Senators in the opening round of the playoffs but they do return a large portion of their team from last year plus some additional pieces that will hopefully give them a boost. Carey Price will be playing with a chip on his shoulder this season as he gets prepared for the 2014 Sochi Olympics with Team Canada and with the starter’s role the biggest question mark for the national team it is fully expected that all the candidates will be auditioning with their best play at the beginning of the season. Heading into Calgary the Canadiens should be well rested and will look to take advantage of a Flames team who has had a busy start to their season.

Calgary is expected to finish at or near the bottom of the NHL standings this season as they are in the midst of a major overhaul but through the first three games, Calgary has looked relatively competitive and will look to earn at least a point for the fourth time this year. Joey Macdonald is expected to get the nod for the Flames and while he is a career backup I think Macdonald is a better option right now than Karri Ramo as the former has more starting experience and will do a better job at maintaining his composure if the Flames give up a few early goals. Macdonald will be doing his best to secure himself the number one job and with Price at the other end I think this game is a solid play on the under as both teams will have trouble scoring and both will be looking to take advantage on special teams. I like the side in this game as well so listen in to the 1st Quarter podcast for my lean there but for the free play I like the under.
