The Calgary Flames continue their Pacific coast tour as they have wrapped up in California and Arizona, and find themselves in Texas to take on the Dallas Stars.

Calgary comes into Big D looking to improve on their 4-3-2 mark and erase a loss in their last contest to the Phoenix Coyotes. Despite the loss to Phoenix the Flames have actually played quite well this season especially considering they were expected to be in the basement this season and while that is still very much a possibility, they are playing with some grit and tenacity at the moment which is something a lot of other teams can’t say. The Flames are led up front by rookie sensation Sean Monahan who may have played his way into the starting lineup as the rookie benchmark number fast approaches which usually spells the end of a rookie’s season in the big league and returns them to their junior level team. The Flames are hoping for their sake that Monahan stays around as he has surely been a sparkplug through his first nine NHL games.

The Stars meanwhile have fallen out of sorts in the last couple seasons as they were a perennial playoff contender for years but haven’t been to the second season in some time and are using that as a primary goal this season. The Stars went out and acquired Tyler Seguin from the Boston Bruins and while he has made an impact with his new team it hasn’t been nearly enough to push the Stars up the league standings. Dallas currently sits last in the Western Conference though they do have some games in hand but without their starting netminder for the foreseeable future the Stars might get comfortable down in the basement. Calgary continues to get swept under the rug and for a team that has played some of the league’s best very closely this year I think they get over the hump here and leave Texas with two big points.

Calgary Flames +0.5
