The Maple Leafs play the back end of a double header on Wednesday night as they travel from Edmonton to Calgary to take on a well rested Flames team.

The Maple Leafs were our premium play of the day yesterday as we loved the spot and value they were getting as slight road favourites in Edmonton but they completely dominated the game as James Reimer continues to propel the goaltending controversy as he was brilliant. It is likely that Jonathan Bernier will get the nod here as he vies to reclaim momentum in the Leafs’ crease but they’ll be matched up against a Flames team who is surprising people this year and will have plenty of vengeance on their minds. Former Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke, who was relieved of his duties in Toronto prior to last year’s shortened season beginning is now running things in Calgary and other former Maple Leafs players in Matt Stajan, Lee Stempniak, and Joe Colborne will be looking to stick it to their former club. While the Leafs are the better team it will be a much tougher venue and atmosphere than what transpired in Edmonton last night.

The Flames as mentioned have shocked a lot of people with their play this season as many had them pegged as a league bottom feeder, and while that reality could still come to fruition they have looked quite good so far. Calgary has yet to lose a home game in regulation this season sporting a 3-0-1 mark but the Leafs have been equally if not more impressive on the road and will be looking for teir second win in as many nights. Karri Ramo is likely to start but former Leafs backup Joey Macdonald is also on the roster and they could decide to go with him instead but either way the goaltending advantage sides with the Leafs so they’ll have to find ways to score if they want to compete. Despite how well the Leafs are playing at the moment I really like Calgary here as a home dog as I think they will be hungry in this one and with so many angles looking for retribution I think we see it here. Toronto is on a back to back while the Flames will be rested and if the crowd can get on Phaneuf I think this one could get ugly in favour of the home team.
