The Avalanche look to extinguish all of their off ice distractions when they head to Big D to take on an improving Stars team.
The Avalanche have been the talk of the league this season as they raced out to a very impressive start to the season and silenced all of their skeptics in the process but now they’re attracting a lot of attention for off ice issues and surprisingly none of them involve Patrick Roy. Colorado starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov was arrested earlier this week on accusations of domestic violence and until things work itself out the Avs have wisely benched their troubled net minder at least for this contest against Dallas. Furthermore, the Avs traded the often scrutinized yet very effective forward Steve Downie to the Philadelphia Flyers for veteran forward Max Talbot in a move that has a lot of people scratching their heads based on Downie’s contributions to the team this season. Either way the Avs head into Dallas winners of four in a row and have won 10 of their first 11 contests putting them atop the Central division.

The Stars meanwhile don’t have any off ice distractions or at least any that we know about and while they sit in the basement of the Central they’re not a bad team and should be doing more considering the talent they have. Kari Lehtonen is a solid goaltender that will give the team some more confidence while he is between the pipes and playing at home here should help the Stars who are 3-1-1 in Frisco this season. Lehtonen will have to be on his game in this one as the Avs are a very tough team and JS Gigeure gets the nod in the Avalanche crease and he has been spectacular this season in relief of Varlamov. However, this is a perfect circumstance in which to take a swing with the Stars as they’re getting insane value as a home dog and after this one they have Saturday off before taking on the Senators in Ottawa on Sunday so they won’t have to worry about tired legs the next day. I really like the Stars here and is a border line Premium Play for me. Hammer the home dog.
