The Line: Florida Panthers -110 / Edmonton Oilers +100 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

Two of the worst teams in the league meet up in Florida on Tuesday night as the Panthers host the underachieving Oilers.

The Oilers head into Florida having lost back to back games and 12 of their first 15 games overall and for a club that was projected to make the playoffs and perhaps make it into the conference semi-finals this simply isn’t good enough. The Oilers have been without all three of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Sam Gagner, and Taylor for periods of time with the latter still out with a knee injury but they do have the talent to win without having a key player in the lineup. The main problem for the Oilers this season has been in the back end and in the crease as they have given up the most goals in the league and surrender a ton of shots every single contest making it tough for the Oilers goaltenders to gain any confidence. At the same time the Oilers goaltenders need to be able to come up with a big save when called upon and so far that hasn’t been the case. Devan Dubnyk is the latest in the goaltending carousel in Edmotnon as he matches up against Scott Clemmensen for Florida.

The Panthers meanwhile are expected to finish near the bottom of the standings once again this season just two years removed from winning the now dissolved Southeast division and making the postseason. The Panthers selected Alex Barkov in last year’s draft with the second overall selection, passing on Jonathan Drouin and Seth Jones and they’re banking on the young Finnish sensation to form the future core of the team with Jonathan Huberdeau. Florida is 3-8-3 on the year and have nine points which puts them one point ahead of the Oilers but still in the bottom five in the league overall. The Cats do have two of their three wins at home but the Oilers have two of their three on the road so this game really is a toss up. I am going to give Edmonton the benefit of the doubt here as they’re the better team and maybe playing away from Rexall Place will serve them better.
