The Calgary Flames look to shake off a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday as they continue their road trip in St. Louis to take on the Blues.

The Flames head into St. Louis looking to make amends for their lackluster effort against Minnesota on Tuesday as they go back with Reto Berra between the pipes who took the brunt of Minnesota’s offense. Calgary has surprised some people with how well they have played this season but an effort like we saw in Minnesota puts things into perspective a little bit as they’re a team in transition and is likely going to lose quite a few games like that this season.  The Flames have been able to generate offense for the most part this season but a defensive oriented team like Minnesota exploits teams that are weak up front and now heading into St. Louis who plays a very similar game to the Wild it could make for another long evening.

St. Louis Blues vs. Calgary Flames - 11/7/13

Scott Rovak-USA TODAY Sports

St. Louis escaped Montreal with a 3-2 shootout victory, one that maybe they shouldn’t have gotten but they’ll take the two points heading back home to face Calgary. St. Louis is a scary team as they’re loaded at the back end and have enough play makers up front to match up with almost anybody in the league and unlike some of the other top dogs they don’t play down to the competition level of their opponent. Brian Elliott gets the start here as the often discussed “backup” in St. Louis who has been the centre of many trade rumors will get another chance to prove he deserves to be a full time starter in this league. There is no sense in taking the Blues on the moneyline and even a regulation play has a ton of juice so I think the puck line is the best way to go and while it could prove to be a let down spot for St. Louis after the win in Montreal I think they’ll come out focused and determined.

St. Louis Blues -1.5
