The Nashville Predators look to extend their winning streak to three games when they take to the road to face the Jets on Friday night.
The Predators started out slow this season but have since started to turn the corner and they’re well on their way up the Western Conference standings thanks in large part to their 6-2-2 stretch over their last 10 games. Nashville is a defensive oriented team that is very physical on the puck and thrives on solid goaltending but when Pekka Rinne went down with an injury there was much speculation that the Preds were in big trouble. However, Carter Hutton has come in and put up a 4-1-1 mark in relief of Rinne and looks like he could see some additional time even when the Preds’ starter returns as he has been brilliant in relief. Nashville will turn to Hutton once again here in Winnipeg as he matches up against Ondrej Pavelec.

The Jets have been a streaky team so far this season and unfortunately for them most of the streaking has gone south as they sit in last place in the Central division with a 6-9-2 mark. Winnipeg has always been a ferocious team at home but even their raucous fans can’t seem to get them going as they’re 4-5-1 at the MTS Centre and haven’t been able to take advantage on home ice. Winnipeg has lost 7 of their last 10 contests and they need to break out of this funk in a hurry as the talent level in their division is among the best in the game and it might be too much of a hill to overcome after the Olympic break. While I think Al Montoya is the better goaltending option for the Jets it appears as though they’re going with Pavelec here and while I find it tough to back him I will in this spot as I can’t see the Jets dropping this one at home as they match up quite well with Nashville. Look for the Jets to skate away a winner as their defense keeps the Preds’ offense at bay and contributes on the scoresheet.
