The slumping Islanders head into Montreal looking to snap a three game skid while the Habs will look for redemption after dropping their last contest.

The Islanders made the postseason last year and while they were ousted in the first round by the Penguins there was a ton of optimism heading into this season on Long Island – something that hasn’t been present in quite some time. John Tavares leads an impressive forward unit that receieved a boost when they acquired Thomas Vanek but unfortunately they are going througha tough stretch at the moment and will need to turn things around in a hurry. The Isles have lost three straight games and things don’t get any easier as they head into Montreal to take on the Canadiens who have a huge goaltending edge in this game.

Montreal is coming off a loss of their own but is the home team here and has Carey Price starting in goal who has a huge edge over Kevin Poulin of the Islanders. The Canadiens haven’t played particularly well of late and have been disappointing on home ice this season but normally this is a place where they have a huge edge as the Bell Centre crowd plays a bigger role than most other home fans in the entire league. This is a battle between two underachieving teams who have similar playoff aspirations but the pressure is more so on the home team as their standard is Stanley Cup or bust while the Isles to be honest would just be happy to get back in the postseason. Montreal is a heavy favourite here and while New York has struggled these teams are closer than this line indicates. I am willing to take a shot with the Isles here as Montreal usually plays down to the competition and I think they do it once again here.

New York Islanders +0.5
