Two of the best in the East clash in Boston in the only game on the NHL schedule on Monday night as the Tampa Bay Lightning take on the Bruins.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have been one of the league’s biggest surprises this season as they have fought off preseason skepticism and are currently sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings with a 12-4 mark. The Bolts have ripped off four straight games and are an impressive 5-2 away from home this season but faces one of their stiffest tests of the season as they head into the TD Garden to take on a Bruins team coming off a huge win over the Maple Leafs. Ben Bishop has been remarkable in the Lightning crease as the former Blues and Senators goalie is finally getting his chance to be a number one and he has full capitalized on the opportunity as he is currently leading the league with 11 wins. Bishop gets the nod here against Tuukka Rask who is having a nice season as well as he sits in the top five in both goals against average and save percentage.

The Bruins had arguably their biggest win of the season when they outlasted the Maple Leafs at the Garden on Saturday night and now they have an opportunity to pull within single point of the Lightning for top spot in the division with a win tonight. Boston was one of the preseason favourites to win the Cup this year after losing in the finals against the Blackhawks in heartbreaking fashion last year and so far they have fit the bill skating out to 10-5-1 mark through their first 16 contests. Boston heads into this game as a pretty big favourite which is difficult to process as the Bolts have the better record and have beaten some of the game’s best recording wins over the Blackhawks, Penguins, and Red Wings and yet they continue to get no love from the oddsmakers. While the Bruins should be fired up here I really like the way the Lightning have played at both ends of the rink and while the Bruins are the deeper team the Lightning have the best player in hockey right now and I’ll take my chances with Stamkos and the Bolts.
