The Montreal Canadiens head into Columbus on Friday night looking to shake off an overtime loss in their last outing while the Jackets look to avoid losing a third straight.
The Canadiens will look to jump above the .500 mark on the road with a win in Ohio on Friday night but they have to be cautious as they return home on Saturday for an Original Six date with the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre. Montreal has been a bit inconsistent this season as they were very successful on their first major road trip but haven’t been able to string wins together since and are hoping that backup Petr Budaj can have the same success that Price has been having. Price is hands down the team’s MVP and was brilliant in a losing effort on Wednesday night but Budaj is no slouch as he has been a starter in this league before and can definitely hold his own. He will match up against Sergei Bobrovsky who will likely get most of the action for the Jackets this season as he hopes to retain the Vezina Trophy.

The Blue Jackets have managed to grab points in their last two contests but were unable to secure the other available two as they have dropped back to back games in overtime and have slipped back to the basement of the Metropolitan division. Columbus has had a tough time adjusting to their new Conference but perhaps over time this year they’ll become better acclimated and be able to turn some of these close opportunities into victories. The Jackets were expected by some to make the playoffs this year and while that is a bit of a stretch even though they’re in the East and improved their roster I just don’t see it happening this year. However, the Jackets will give it their all each and every night and should be competitive on a regular basis and never give a team an easy out. Unfortunately I think Budaj and the Canadiens get the best of them here even though their minds might be set on the Rangers.
