The Lost Angeles Kings got some bad news on Wednesday, finding out that they would be without star goaltender Jonathan Quick for at least another month with a groin strain. There was hope in the Kings organizaiton that Quick's injury wouldn't be this significant but now the team knows they're going to have to get by without Quick for the forseeable future. Meanwhile all that has happened since Quick's injury is backup Ben Scrivens has stepped in and been flawless. Scrivens wasn't thought much of in the offseason when he was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The crux of the deal was that the Maple Leafs were still looking to solve their No. 1 goaltending issue and they felt Jonathan Bernier was the answer. Now it looks like Scrivens might have been the guy all along and he's thriving in front of this stout Kings defense. Scrivens posted back to back shutouts over the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers and followed that up with a 5-2 win on home ice over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. Los Angeles might as well ride Scrivens now while they need him and Quick is out. There's no reason for the Kings not to do that so expect to see Scrivens out there as much as possible as long as he stays hot.

The New Jesey Devils have been playing some much better hockey of late but they'll be coming into this one after having playing on Wednesday night in Anaheim against the Ducks. Anaheim is a physical hockey club that really takes a toll on their opponents, so it's difficult for anyone to have to get right back out there the following night. Add in that it's a team the caliber of the Los Angeles Kings that's just as physical and it makes the task even harder. Martin Brodeur got the call on Wednesday so expect to see Cory Schneider in net on Thursday night against Los Angeles. New Jersey was shutout by the Kings a few days ago and while revenge will be on their mind this is a club that hasn't had the easiest time scoring goals this season. Facing a team like the Kings is a tough challenge and this spot might make it even tougher.
