The Canadiens head into Washington looking for their second straight win as they face off against the Capitals who are coming off a tough home loss to the Penguins.
The Canadiens are coming off their best offensive output of the season as they pasted the usually defensive conscious Minnesota Wild by a 6-2 final at the Bell Centre in what was surely a statement victory for the bleu, blanc, and rouge. Montreal has been a bit inconsistent this season as they have played very well on the road at times and stumbled home and the next time out they will flip flop. However, the Habs sit two games above .500 at the moment are in fifth place in the Atlantic division and are just six points behind the division leading Bruins. Petr Budaj gets the call for the Canadiens in this one as the former Avalanche starter is fitting in well in his role as the Montreal backup and is giving them a chance to win just as frequently as starter Carey Price. Budaj will go toe to toe with Braden Holtby as the Caps try to rebound after Wednesday night’s debacle.

Washington had the chance to move ahead of the Penguins in the Metro division on Wednesday night as they hosted the division leaders at the Verizon Center and looked poised to make a serious jump in the conversation of playoff contenders. However, the Caps came out completely flat and Sidney Crosby and the Penguins proved once again that they’re the class of the Eastern Conference and that Crosby is in fact the best player in the world. Washington has a chance at redemption but the Canadiens have a good makeup to their team and sit just a point back of the Caps so this one should be a lot closer than some expect. Despite Budaj being the backup in Montreal there are a number of teams who would love to have him as their starter and against the Caps I think he shows up and keep this game in check leaving the Habs open for a chance at the upset.
