The Wild and Blues square off in what should be a feisty matchup between two of the game’s stingiest defensive units.

Minnesota comes into tonight’s matchup having won two games in a row and 8 of their last 10 overall which has launched them into 4th place in the Central division but within striking distance of taking over top spot. The Wild are a very sound defensive unit and match up well against a St. Louis team who is very similar in style and this could very well be a preview of a playoff series come April. Nicklas Backstrom is expected to get the start for the Wild in this one as he matches up against Jaroslav Halak but for some reason the Blues are very heavy favourites in this spot considering the teams are separated by just one point. The Wild haven’t played well on the road this season so they’ll need to rectify that if they want to be taken seriously and that could start with a huge win in this one.

St. Louis Blues vs. Minnesota Wild - 11/25/13

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Blues have quietly pieced together another spectacular start to the season as they sit in second place in the Central division with a 16-3-3 and with a win here they can leapfrog the Blackhawks for top spot. St. Louis has been a team on the cusp over the past few seasons and seem to be a consensus pick by many before the year to do some damage in the playoffs but so far we have yet to see much playoff success from the Blues and until they can demonstrate that killer instinct they won’t be getting much respect from other team’s around the league. However they have been able to generate plenty of regular season victories and that is our main concern here as they host a Minnesota team they should be able to win against in what I believe to be a tight checking low scoring affair. No value on the Blues, tons on the Wild but I can’t pull the trigger as the Blues have been ridiculous at home and the Wild subpar on the road. Take the under.

Under 5.5
