The Kings and Canucks meet up in Vancouver as the road team looks to shake off back to back overtime losses while the home team looks to avenge a loss in their last contest – their 7th in their last 10 contests.
Los Angeles continues to be a very tough team to play against and while they were eliminated prematurely from the postseason a year ago they look poised to go on a deep run once again this year and so far they have posted a 15-6-3 mark through their first 24 games. Many thought that Kings’ season was going to go up in flames after all star goaltender Jonathan Quick went down but backup Ben Scrivens who was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the offseason for former backup Jonathan Bernier has been the talk of the league so far in the crease. Scrivens leads the league in shutouts and has just one regulation loss so far in nine contests since taking over and he will once again play a factor in this one. Scrivens matches up against Roberto Luongo who is hands down the best option in goal and will get the nod for Vancouver.

Vancouver always seems to find themselves in the conversation of Western Conference and Stanley Cup contenders as they boast a strong core of talented players and have the experience necessary to win in this league but for some reason they haven’t been able to get things going this year. The Canucks do have a 12-9-4 mark but they’re nine points back of the Ducks for the division lead and they have played uncharacteristically poor at home this year. The Canucks need to find a way to start winning games against the better teams in the West and a victory here against the Kings would be a huge confidence booster for Luongo, John Tortorella and the entire organization. I have a very solid play on the side but I will post that in the Premium Area but for today’s free pick in this game I like the under as both net minders should give their team a chance to win and I think this will be a very physical game.
