It was an ugly start on Monday night for the New York Rangers and things just kept getting worse for them. New York allowed two quick goals to the Tampa Bay Lightning and were never able to recover despite dominating the rest of the opening period. The Rangers, a team that has become used to getting big saves from Henrik Lunqvist, didn't get those in this game and it came back to haunt them. Lundqvist was pulled after two periods of play and the Rangers eventually fell by a final of 5-0. New York generated chances and had multiple power play opportunities to get back into the game but they could never capitalize on any of them against Ben Bishop. There are plenty of reasons to be positive about the way that New York has played this season but they still lack an ability to finish on a consistent basis. The Rangers are generating opportunities but those don't matter much if the puck doesn't find the back of the net. Facing off against the Panthers and their goaltending situation should be a little bit easier than facing Bishop but New York always seems to face a challenge when they travel to Sunrise. Florida bounced back from two consecutive losses with a nice win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night. Sean Bergenheim tallied twice in the second period and Erik Gudbranson put the Flyers away for good with his first goal of the season in the 3-1 victory. Tim Thomas made 38 saves to pick up the win and improve his record to 6-7-1 on the year. Florida has looked like a competent hockey club since the firing of Kevin Dineen and should be looking for a little revenge against the Rangers for a loss suffered at Madison Square Garden earlier this year.
